Oh, what a wonderful book!Beautiful photos, charming sketches, and a practical collection of tips and tricks from real (and real wise) grandmas!I was looking for something to share with my own mother, who is enjoying having her little granddaughter over for "sleepovers". This fits the bill perfectly.Some of the ideas - such as exploring creeks and building campfires - will likely not be a fit for the grandparent with limited mobility, but there are many gems in here that are usable for anyone, anywhere. Projects of all kinds are included, from momentary distractions to long-term projects - baking, gardening, playing, and just spending quality time together. This book is packed with memories to be made!The author's grandchildren are very lucky indeed, as are any grandchildren with a grandma who reads this book and puts it to use!
I own three of Sharon's Books and this one has been updated . She combines the use of photos with her drawings. I prefer the drawings as find them very charming. This is a book that is very helpful for grandma's who like to entertain their grandbabies and spend more time doing things that involve them and keep them intellectually stimulated so it is a great little book of resources and very appealing. It is a book that brings joy to being a grandparent and also to the grandchildren. It has a ton of activities in it. The appealing aspect is that none are really difficult to do.It is a good follow up to her other book called Roots, Shoots and Buckets and Boots which is one of my favorites.I highly recommend both of these books if you are looking for ideas and also if you like to have a tangible book to look at and to read. For myself, I love to hold a book in my hands ....
I am in love with Sharon Lovejoy's books. I highly recommend them all.These are a collection of pretend-play ideas, outdoor discoveries, woodsy crafts, old fashioned games, and even some recipes that all help us meditate upon the forgotten luxury of simple living.Many of the activities guide you through the types of outdoor play you may have long forgotten since becoming a curmudgeonly old adult. Lovejoy makes fairies come alive again and mudpies seem like culinary masterpieces.There are various suggestions about how to create a cozy, child-friendly oasis within your home - stashing dress up clothes in a large trunk, keeping a large basket full of books in every room, bringing nature indoors.The illustrations throughout these books are so charming - watercolor sketches reminiscent of Beatrix Potter, which is perfectly suited to the content of the books.Visit my parenting blog for more great book recommendations similar to this one. I saw this wonderful book several years ago at a local garden center but had no reason to buy it. I recently ordered when I learned I was going to be a grandma. This book has great ideas for a grammy who loves nature, gardening and providing fun and unique experiences for their grandkids. It's 25 years since I've had a child under 5 so I've gotten out of the habit of creative fun. This book is a great guide.
Lots of excellent activities and ideas to encourage quality time with my grandchildren. Sharon Lovejoy reminds me how to think like a child again and see the world through their eyes, sadly something long forgotten for me.
My mom lives pretty far away from both of her grandgirls. She was ecstatic to receive this as a gift. It has tons of cute ideas including some fun things for grandparents to do when their grandchildren don't live near by. It is better for kids 5 and up but there are some cute ideas. For the baking/cooking ideas, the recipes are pretty easy to adapt for kids with food allergies which is always nice. I highly recommend this as a gift to give grandma or grandpa some cute, fun ideas on how to create a meaningful experience with their grandchildren when they come to visit.
Interesting ideas, helps for those who aren't as crafty in mind for little kids. Makes excellent gift for those new grandma's
I loved this book and best of all so did my granddaughters. One is 7 and one is 4 and they both looked at it and were very eager and ready to start several of the projects talked about in this book. Plus we all loved the illustrations.
