I read several books on sex selection and this book was my favorite. It was easy to follow, to the point, and made the most sense. Rather than having you track several fertility signs, which can be confusing and unreliable, the author has you track your LH surge. I followed the instructions in this book to help increase my chance of conceiving a girl. I got pregnant on the first try and ultrasound and blood tests have confirmed we're expecting a baby girl! So thrilled!!

I purchased this book in the summer and after reading it a few times. My husband and I decided to try it out. I bought the LH strips needed to help me track my period for 3 months and nailed it the first time we tried. On Jan 10, we had a gender reveal dinner and it was confimred the method worked for us. After 3 healthy boys we are expecting our little girl in July. I highly recommend buying the book it is very informative, easy to read and follow. Baby Dust Method my family and I can not thank you enough for helping us make our dream come true. Can not wait to hold Emily Rose in our arms. Good Luck and baby dust to you all.

I love the science behind this. After 3 girls my husband and I wanted to try one more time for a boy. We would of been happy either way but we were definitely praying for a boy to close this chapter in our lives. I also used OPK strips. This made so much more sense than anything I read online and it’s backed in science!I wish this book would have been published a long time ago.

My husband and I purchased this book when I heard about it through a gender swaying group on facebook. I recently lost my mother and my 69 year old maternal grandmother, I have no sisters and so having a daughter meant a lot more to me than anyone around me could understand. Garbage book that makes easy concepts complex. Look at the chapter on glycolysis/krebs/ETC. Makes these relatively complex processes EXTREMELY complex. Look at other chapters. Easy concepts like carbon structure and mygloblin will be made complex.Piece of trash by and large. I am giving two stars become some good points. I recommend Lippincott Illustrated review in biochem, personally.

I have had the honor of having the author as a teacher in Medical School. He is a very smart man in all aspects of Medical Biochemistry. More straight-forward and clinical than most other texts.

The error start in the second and third formulae in Chapter 1 (page 4). Both confuse the number (mol) and concentration (molarity), which any person who has had general chemistry should discover. In addition, it incorrectly states that it is 1 in 5 million molecules of water dissociate; it is correctly 1 in 555 million, which any person capable of basic math should discover. Numerous basic errors repeat to the end of the text. The number of basic errors in the text should cause doubt of its validity. Use Berg or Lehninger or Devlin.

This book was required for my biochem. course and I would not recommend it for someone who it learning the information for the first time or who has not had a biochemistry course. It is highly condensed and would probably be great if studying for the USMLE, COMLEX etc b/c it is more of a review. A lot of details that are needed to understand the basic concepts are left out.

Lots of great information in this textbook. Very high level of knowledge.

Alright! Listen ! if you want a book to help you with your Biochem PhD. this is not the one for you . But If you want to learn Biochem in a very clinically relevant way, look no further! Dr. Meisenberg has a very clear grasp of the material and conveys it well in this book. this is a book for medical students. if you are one .. you know as well as I do that we want to learn Biochem just enough to use it clinically and to do well on the USMLE. The Clinical associations and illustrations in this book make it just right for that purpose. Along with a bit ofDr. meisenberg's intelectual humor, it makes biochem almost palatable!(You'll catch it in there here and there). You WILL find in this book all the info needed to rock the step ( as I did) in a short, fun, no fluff format.

I love this book - I would not, however, use this as your only biochem text book (I would also get Lippincott or the First Aid General Principles book). This book seems like it was written knowing where medical students run into problems. The book explains things simply and in a relatively easy to understand way. I also like the clinical applications in this book - not only is the biochemistry taught, but it also provides some clinical information as well. I didn't really like this when I was an M1, but now as I'm studying for my boards, I love it. I'll definitely reference this book for a long time.

Arrived on time, etc ......... highly useful, etc etc etc ........... met and continues to meet expectations (and then some).

Purchased this cookbook for our 4th of July BBQ for 40 people. We tried over ten recipes from 'Maple-Sage Pork Kebabs' to 'Tuscan Halibut Kebabs with Tomato-Caper Relish' and all were fantastic! My favorite was the 'Sambal Shrimp Kebabs (Sambal Udang)', but only barely...Instructions were easy to follow and the "NOTE for a vegetarian option" added at the end of each recipe was helpful and ensured our vegetarian contingency was properly taken care of–we substituted mushroom, extra-firm tofu & potato in a few recipes with great success.Great cookbook that has turned me into a Kebabs Guru... or at least an aspiring one!

Accommodating both vegan and omnivore diets is an everyday challenge at my house. And when it comes to grilling, fuggedaboudit! the vegan (that’s me) typically is relegated to a couple of side dishes. Until now! Three cheers for this fantastic cookbook, Kebabs, for offering practical and tested vegan and vegetarian alternatives to nearly every meat recipe! The first recipe I had to try was the Jamaican Jerk kebabs (chicken for my omnivore husband, and seitan for me.) Holy wow it was good - savory and sweet and a little bit spicy, just like we had in Jamaica over 20 years ago! When my husband put Bob Marley on Spotify and popped open a Red Stripe between bites, I knew this Jamaican Jerk kebab was a hit for him, too. Huge props to the authors for, firstly, incorporating alternative diets into a cookbook about, lets face it, grilling meat, but mostly for actually making the meat-free alternatives taste as delicious as the meat recipes. I can’t wait to grill up the next Kebabs recipe!

Great food doesn't have to be complicated or involve a ton of ingredients. This book delivers unfussy, straightforward recipes that yield succulent flavor combos. (Hello, Cumin-Blood Orange Pork!) I'm thrilled with the variety offered, especially in the lamb and vegetarian categories. Everything looks juicy, easy, and delicious...and the authors smartly suggest that many dishes can be served up as appetizers or lighter fare. Pretty sure this is going to be my go-to source for this summer's backyard entertaining.

I'm a fairly high level home cook, read cookbooks like novels, and grill on charcoal all summer. While I find my just-delivered copy of "Kebabs" to be intriguing recipe-wise, there are a lot of typos, enough to be distracting. I am wondering why the publishers, Harvard Common Press and Quattro Publishing, couldn't have used a better copy editor. Worse, it's sloppy enough to make me wonder if the recipes themselves were properly vetted prior to publication.A better choice might be "The Japanese Grill," by by Tadashi Ono and Harris Salat, which I've used endlessly. The quality of the recipes and the book are outstanding.UPDATE: Cooked Sunday Dinner for eleven people using five recipes from "Kebabs."The Balsamic-Brown Sugar Steak and Onion Kebabs were a HUGE hit and the recipe had no issues. Highly recommend.The Raspberry-Sriracha Glazed Chicken Wings were GORGEOUS and delicious but the directions never told you when to use the salt and pepper listed under the ingredients for the kebabs. There we go with the sloppy editing. I decided to just toss the wings with the salt and pepper before putting on the marinade.The Bacon-Wrapper Chicken Kebabs with Pineapple Teriyaki Sauce were also a hit, but AGAIN, the directions never told you when to put in the pinch of salt listed for the sauce, weirdly calling out the other three ingredients in the list and specifically not listing the salt. I just threw it in with the other ingredients for the marinade, while muttering darkly about publishers who don't vet recipes.The Spicy Pineapple Glazed Seafood Kabobs were meh. Too bad, as the scallops and shrimps were the most expensive proteins.I couldn't find halloumi cheese for the Vegetable and Halloumi Kebabs so I substituted paneer. Don't do this. The paneer just got tough and sulky and was no fun to eat. I would try again with halloumi.Overall, the quality of the recipes is REALLY good. Still, with errors in two out of five recipes, I wouldn't recommend "Kebabs" for novice cooks.

This is an amazing cookbook. Beautiful pictures and wonderful recipes told in an engaging way. We've tried a few recipes already and they've been easy to make and delicious. We particularly liked the Greek pork souvlaki. I think we'll probably end up using this all summer and probably keep recipes in our normal rotation for years. It's great!

The recipes here are absolutely amazing! We made about 12 of them ahead and only one turned out bad (spicy pineapple glazed seafood... The water based baste turned them mushy..yuck). A great book to improve your grilling game.

I've read this book 3-4 times at this point. With each reading, I find a piece of advice to pull from that feels extremely poignant to what is currently going on in my life.Irv Yalom is one of my therapy heros. While I've never met him, I find myself pulling from his advice in many different circumstances. Unlike many psychiatrists, Yalom does not pathologize. He seems to treat people like people and encourage future therapists to do so as well. As a therapist myself, when I am feeling lost, I often think "what would Yalom say about this?"I think we are in a time where despite immense progress, going to therapy is still stigmatized (even in the field). I appreciate how Yalom speaks openly about the importance of his own therapy on his progression to becoming a better therapist. I think that this book is important for anyone to read but especially for those who want to understand why therapy is so important and how healing it can be.

So, he gives advice. At his age he deserves to give something more than he has to the profession that is so much a part of one's identity. So my advice? Get it and read it, if you are a therapist or plan to be one; take it one chapter at a time if you are a client or patient - use it on your journey; humble yourself to try something new, again, better, different, old school, if you are a therapist and don't have time for anything but earning your CEU's. Take your time! Be in the here and now when you read it! Breathe deep breaths. Notice your responses to the gifts he has given and to what he has received and ask if you are giving and receiving, both, as well. Soak in Yalom's wisdom; he has written his share, and logs 30+ years of experience. Yalom's ideas are often not his own but he has a nice way of sticking in your mind; they have served me well in my own profession and journey; but ignore - even scoff - at his arrogance. All of his writing has that edge and there's so much more to focus on here.

If you are a therapist, I cannot recommend this book highly enough. In fact, I believe it should be required reading for all counselors. There are also a host of very valuable lessons for those who are seeking therapy or are interested in self-exploration in general.

This was required reading for a psychotherapy class that I took, but I would have enjoyed reading it either way. The chapters were short, the language was easy, and the writing felt very intimate. I found it infinitely interesting to hear about the experiences of someone who has practiced psychotherapy for so long, there were many things I would have never even considered - either as patient or therapist. This is definitely a book I plan to keep near by throughout the remainder of my coursework and hopefully into my own practice.

Simply one of the best books on therapy you can own, from a therapist's perspective or a client's. It provides such wonderful insight for a neophyte on many difficult subjects and general questions alike. I read it at least once a year as a psychotherapist to remind myself of what we are all capable of in this field and how the relationship and empathy should always be at the forefront of my mind.

Yalom writes this book in a way that is easy to read and keeps you interested. Good read for any therapist, but especially has been helpful for someone just starting in the field.

Irvin Yalom is a prolific author, Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry at Stanford University, and at the time of writing this book had over 35 years of clinical practice.His book is essentially 85 tips for professional counselors on how to get the most out of therapy. Each tip is a chapter so you get a tip and then an explanation of the tip. I have been a serious student of the history of western religions for 5 or 6 years, with emphasis on the beginnings and early years of Christianity in the context of the cultures, philosophies and religions of the time (Jewish, Greek, Roman, Persian etc.), and the subsequent development of the 6th-7th century world in which Islam arose and flourished. I have accumulated a sizable reference collection and thought I hadn't missed very much. But I just ran across Michael Cook's 'Muhammad', and it is the book I would recommend that any interested beginner read for a short account of Muhammed and the origins of Islam. Only 89 pages, it is especially good on the relationships between Islam and its Arabian cultural roots, and between Islam and Judaism & Christianity. The writing style is so clear and effective that it took my breath away more than once. Other reviewers here criticize it as an apology for Islam, as speculating things that are in dispute, and as not being the best source on this subject. The first says less about this book or about Islam than it does about the reviewer. The second is true but trivial - Cook is clear that he is speculating when he does and it is a strength of this book that he is willing to. From my extensive reading, there is nothing in his speculations that is unreasonable. On the third, there are other good introductory books such as Karen Armstrong's 'History of God' and 'Islam', but this is the best well-written short treatment I have seen. Cook wrote a short, clear book in part by leaving out all the "maybes" and "so-and-so doesn't agree with this theory" verbiage. If you want a longer, every question & detail covered, a struggle to get through, reference-style treatment, well, they're out there. That's not what this is.

Michael Cook's brief biography of Muhammad meets all the criteria of a fine, insightful analysis, worthy of repeated readings. I had first come across it in a graduate school seminar on "Muhammad and the origins of Islam" back in 1989, and I was immediately struck by its conciseness, its getting down to basics in narrating the life and historical fact of Muhammad. More, Cook adds on chapters putting Muhammad in historical and religious perspective of Middle Eastern monotheism, which cover the monotheist understanding of the universe, law, politics and history.Throughout, Cook's narrative and analysis makes splendid reading, and one gains significant insight by repeated re-readings. I would recommend this short book to anyone wishing to get a first orientation to Muhammad, Islam, and the Qu'ran.

Books in the Past Masters series are always outstanding.

I enjoyed it as much as I had enjoyed Cook's A Short History of Quran. He writes, plainly and is compellingly very impressive.

Was a good little book. Even though it is small it is chocked with interesting information and was well worth the purchase.

An interesting and original semi-biography. If you want a chronological description of his life, then this is not for you. But if you are interested in an original perspective, check out this small book.
