We're planning a trip this summer, and this book has really helped us be better informed as to what places to camp. It tells which take reservations and which don't, what kinds of bathroom facilities are present, the elevation (important for getting an idea of temperature ranges), and so on. Also, it's well organized by region and the maps make it easy to figure out which campsites are in the area where you want to camp.Highly recommended if you're thinking about camping in California.

I've just completed a 30-day camping road trip with my son. We camped and hiked around northern CA using this book and the companion hiking CA book by Moon. They were invaluable. What I appreciate about this book is that it consolidates all of the various camping options into one place. Combine that with the face that the hiking book uses that same map divisions which makes it easy to plan hikes based on where we were camping. Great job!

This is an outstanding reference for camping in California. I bought an old 1987 version of this at a thrift shop and was instantly impressed. I hoped that it had been updated, was pleased it had and immediately bought it. As far as I'm concerned, this is THE go-to book for campgrounds in California. Concise, readable and succinct. It's hard to imagine any camper in California not appreciating what this book offers.

First of all, this book is a must for folks who camp in California. Why go in blind when someone else has been there? You may disagree with some of the authors ratings and the like but that doesn't diminish its value at all.If you own an earlier edition I'm not sure the update is critical. Most of it seems unchanged from mine of several editions ago, but it still makes sense to own it as there may have been a forest fire that caused an update in a particular area, and campsite prices have been updated, although they change too rapidly to rely totally on any printed product.Summation: A useful update for a great tool for CA campers.

It's all here. 1400 campgound listings in the golden state. Organized by geographic region. A brief description of the area and maps to locate the campgrounds are included. All types from free and primitive to resort-like and pricey, and all levels in between. A large amount of usefull info on sevices, amenities , prices and recreation available. There is a fair amount of flipping back and forth between the written descriptions and the map to locate one you find interesting. It would have been nice if the author had included a page listing all campgrounds in one area with features and prices to be compared at a glance. As it is one is almost forced to read all listings in said area to find one's choice. ( Not always a bad thing ) Comprehensive and well researched. Recommended.

Bought this book along with the California Hiking one. Very helpful in planning an impromptu 3 day trip into the Sierras. It gives you accurate data about the logistics of the camp, how much it is to stay (or if it is free), what topo map to bring, the phone number of the nearest ranger station to check conditions and makes it super easy to find what you're looking for. I had such a great time...no itinerary and no destination. I stayed at Kennedy Meadows campground in the southern Sierras the first night, and let these two books guide the rest of my stay. I would just look up nearby hiking trails and see what camps were out there, and I was quite happy with my trip. I like how he has a "view rating" as to how scenic the campsite is. Super happy with it and looking forward to my next outdoor adventure.

I've camped here and there in California, mostly in state or national parks. It's always a bit of a pain in the butt to try to find the best campground in an area by cobbling together whatever reviews I could find online. So when I was recently going really out in the boonies camping on public land (not in campgrounds) in the Eastern Sierra's I thought it would be good to have a guide to the available nearby campgrounds in case we needed water, ranger, etc. I was impressed that this book covered even the most remote campgrounds way out there.I look forward to using this guide to pick the best campground for future camping trips.

It's deep—the author packed in a lifetime of learning and experience—but it's also a quick read.I think it's so useful because he tells so many stories from his own career to illustrate his lessons.I'm a very experienced writer who is breaking into video and for me it's the perfect book, but I think it would also benefit people who are new to the profession because it gives you the shooting guidelines you need to make compelling video your first time out.And because it's so filled with information, it's the kind of book that you can go back to and discover lessons and information that you didn't see the first time through.All in all, a great book by a master of the art of video.

For the last 6 years I have been working as a journalist, author and producer. Working together with and next to ‘shooters’, I never had to create video footage myself. After moving to the US I wanted to explore my possibilities as a video journalist and became interested in shooting. It’s pretty difficult to start from scratch but after reading this book I felt as if I had a mentor with me all the time! I like that the book not only gives straight forward, practical tips. It also gives a very interesting insight in the challenging and dynamic work of a shooter. After reading the book I gained even more respect and understanding for the work of my ‘camera colleagues’ and it gave me just the practical knowledge and skills I needed to start creating my own shooting experiences.

I shoot video with a sport/action cam attached to a quadcopter then post them on YouTube. Getting quality video is a lot harder than it looks and I usually only have maybe 10% of suitable material. I may not use all of the techniques in this book but it's obvious that the content is rock solid and proven. The author is very inspiring and gives good examples of successes and failures he has encountered during his career.

If you aspire to be a news-gathering cameraman using a shoulder mounted camera then this book offers a lot of great info and tips. It's less about the artistic side of film-making and more about surviving in the ENG business, working with clients, doing interviews, preparing for travel to war-torn countries and dealing with the locals. As someone who just wants to learn about shooting better videos I didn't find enough here to justify the cost.

I liked the book, it provides a good base to begin with. I'm excited to get started on filming on my own.

The book has some very good points, and is certainly worth the price! If you already know or have basic photographic composition knowledge, you might find this to be repetitive!Personally, I enjoyed it anyway.

To me the heyday of MTV was when it played videos around the clock, and this book is chock full of behind the scenes info of many singers who were hot and happening then (and in some cases even still very popular now) like Madonna, Heart, Robert Palmer, A-Ha, Michael Jackson, and many more. If you love the 80's or you want to know about what MTV was like back in the day or you just like reading entertaining books...get this book. As someone who was an 80's child, I can tell you that this book was well worth the money. The pages flew by, and I wouldn't hesitate to read this again some day.

I've seen others online mention that "I Want My MTV" is more a history of the music video than the story of MTV itself. That's a fair assessment as there are long stretches of the book where the discussion is entirely focused on the music videos and artists themselves with any connection to MTV being tangential at best.Having said that, this book is FANTASTIC. There are so many great stories in here that the book is really hard to put down. If you're a child of the music video era like I am, this is a must-read. My family got MTV very early in 1982 and for a few years after, it served as a de facto radio station for our house. It was pretty much always on. So this book and the videos discussed really connected with me.It's worth noting, as others have, that a lot of the stories deal with sex and drugs and have a very tabloid-y feel. Given the "Uncensored" part of the title and the general subject (rock & roll), that should not surprise you. Occasionally it feels like the author dove a little too deep into that type of story but it never really goes overboard.Bottom line: Buy the book, you won't be sorry.

At the end, older readers who watched MTV will be saddened about its demise as a source of music entertainment.

Viacom destroyed the channel as did the decision to kill off a good thing at its peak. My favorite memory of family vacations was being glued to MTV, as my parents were too cheap to buy cable. if you have a similar MTV-related memory, you are guaranteed to be glued to this book.It reads like "Live from New York" and "The War for Late Night" and is equally addictive. It focuses purely on MTV's 1981-1993 music video era. A looong read, yet my only beef is that I didn't want it to end.Wish there were more said on Beavis & Butthead, MTV rivals like The Box, MTV2, and post 1993 MTV - but this still qualifies as the definitive MTV guide. Get it, you'll love it. Skip a couple chapters on 80's metal videos like I did.

After reading "I Want My MTV", I must say that I am profoundly embarrassed over my musical choices. The videos of the early eighties influenced me to listen to crappy music. The chapters concerning Madonna and poor Billy Squire were not surprising, but incredibly insightful. The book does a fantastic job of illustrating why MTV was successful, why certain videos were shown over and over again and why the cable station had to abandon their original format of playing videos. The book was particularly harsh to Downtown Judy Brown, but I enjoyed her antics. Buy this book. 587 pages was not enough.

Great read for anyone who is a child of the 80s MTV generation. Great insight and insider info. behind the scenes on the whole music video revolution that was MTV. Wish MTV would have stayed the same as it was back then instead of turning into a reality network but that is not applicable here.

About the Author

Multatuli (the pen name of Eduard Douwes Dekker; 1820–1887) was born in Amsterdam and served as a colonial official in the Dutch East Indies (present-day Indonesia) for almost twenty years. His protests against abuses in the Dutch colonial system led to tension with his superiors and eventually to his resignation in 1856. He hoped that the novel Max Havelaar (1860), by bringing the problems to public attention, would lead to meaningful reform and his reinstatement as a senior official. The book was a great success and provoked public and political debate, eventually leading to changes in colonial policy, and Multatuli became a celebrated author. Yet he argued that these changes did not truly address the issues he had exposed, and was disappointed that Max Havelaar had not propelled him into an illustrious career in public administration or politics. He eventually concluded that Dutch colonialism was doomed to fail. Multatuli’s social criticism continued in his later work, such as the popular play School for Princes (1872) and the semiautobiographical novel Woutertje Pieterse (1890), about a young boy in late eighteenth century Amsterdam. Today he is regarded as Holland’s greatest writer of the nineteenth century and the father of contemporary Dutch literature. His many admirers have included D.H. Lawrence and Sigmund Freud. Ina Rilke is a translator of Dutch and French and has received the Vondel Translation Prize, the Scott Moncrieff Prize, and the Flemish Culture Prize for her translations. She lives in Amsterdam and Paris. David McKay is a translator of Dutch literature living in The Hague. He received the Vondel Translation Prize in 2018 for War and Turpentine by Stefan Hertmans. Pramoedya Ananta Toer (1925–2006) was born on the Indonesian island of Java. He is best known for the novels that make up his Buru Quartet, which relates the struggle of Indonesia to liberate itself from the Dutch. Among the honors he received were the PEN Freedom to Write Award and the Ramon Magsaysay Award.

Beware potential spoilers! I am not a big fan of pet play, it can be hard for an author to pull off. I am a big fan of dark, harsh "play", lightly balanced with affection, humor and a satisfying HEA. It takes a skilled writer to paint a picture of being owned, possessed and loved within the context of an interesting story. Ms. Wray does a brilliant, incredibly sexy, HOT, pet play story that at times shocked me yet enchanted me with the love story. I loved the big, tough, intimidating commander that could not stop kissing his kitten. We rarely get a wedding scene and this one balanced perfectly possession with respect. Lots of teasing foreshadow about the lord and princess! More please ;)

I've read books which touched on episodes of dominance and submission before but they weren't the main thrust of the romantic tales. Though well-written and very intriguing, stirring my imagination with fascinating descriptive passages, this book still fell short of really pulling me into the story. I just couldn't reach the height of enjoyable participation in the narrative as I've done with many other stories of romance and intrigue. I certainly recommend this writer's work to anyone who can!

Rounded up from a 3.75This was my first Marlee Wray book, but it won't be my last. I enjoyed the book and the characters. Melsint really knew what she was and what she wanted. She had no problems fighting with her family for her desires.The only thing I didn't like was the strange words for time. It was jarring and didn't flow well for me. That's just me though.

The emotional depth of this story carries it far ahead of most BDSM stories. The characters and plot are interesting and believable which makes the sex hotter. The writing is also a step above. Nothing is more irritating than poor editing. I will watch for more by Ms Wray.

This was a very great and erotic story, if you are looking for fast and dirty I highly recommend that you you this one. The story line was amazing and the characters just lovely. It is dark so be prepared. Marlee Wray wrote a book dark and sensual book looking forward to reading more.

It was an interesting take on a "romance" novel .. I did not inow what to expect so just went with the flow of the novel .. It was interesting and a fun read .. Not so sure this will be something I want to spend much time on, but it was pretty good for what it was.

I really enjoyed this pet/spanking story. It did have a plot and a great HEA with lots of delicious scenes in between with a touch of sci-fi floating around. The PET herself was lovely. Very entertaining!

Excellent, I am very much looking forward to a sequel, but it's still a good stand alone book. I highly recommend it for no other reason then the sex scenes are hot...but the story itself was spellbinding. I like a story that showcases the dominant and submissive relationship while still actually having a plot.
